Our Board

The Board of Benevolence, part of Freemasons Queensland, is the
administrative body of Hand Heart Pocket. The current Board members are:

Mr Thomas R Wiltshire

Assoc. Dip. Bus., MAICD


Tom joined the Board in 2009 and served as Treasurer and Chairman of the Finance Committee. Tom is currently Chairman of the Safety, Clinical and Care Committee and a member of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee. He is Executive General Manager People and Safety for CS Energy Ltd and Chair of Rail Skills Australasia Ltd. Tom brings a strong background in Human Resources and Occupational Health & Safety.


Mr Alan Townson

BE (Hons1), Grad Dip Mgt, Grad Dip Mil Tech Mgt

Grand Master

Alan served on the Board for 12 years from 1995 until 2007 and re-joined the Board in 2016 after being installed as the Grand Master, United Grand Lodge of Queensland. He brings strong leadership and strategic planning skills after an executive career in the Australian Army and engineering resource projects.  Alan has a strong interest in the philanthropic mission of Freemasons’ Queensland.

Mr John Aronis

BBus (Acc), Grad. Dip. CA, MCom, MA

John joined the Board in 2013. He is Chairman of the Audit and Risk Committee, member of the Nomination and Remuneration Committee and a member of the Benevolence and Community Engagement Committee. John is a principal chartered accountant in private practice and has previously served as UGLQ Deputy Grand Treasurer and Grand Treasurer for a decade.


Mr A (Spencer) Christensen

ADFS (FP), JP (Qual)

Spencer joined the Board in 2002. He serves as a member of the Audit and Risk Committee and as Chairman of the Benevolence and Community Engagement Committee.  Spencer was the District Grand Registrar of Carpentaria District 2011-14 and President of the Carpentaria District Board of Benevolence 2002-2011. Spencer has been in the financial services industry since 1972 and operates his own financial planning business under a company structure.

Previously the Chief Executive Officer of Masonic Care Queensland, Gary has a strong record of achievement in senior positions within a range of industries.  He achieves shared purpose for an organisation through strong leadership, meaningful strategy, robust business planning and communication.

Robert Qualtrough

Executive Officer Commercial and Company Secretary

Robert is a Certified Practicing Accountant with more than 20 years experience in senior finance and management advisor positions across a number of industries where he has gained extensive business management, governance and company secretarial experience.
