A hand up for drought-affected Queenslanders

Drought comes creeping more slowly than floods or bushfires but is just as devastating for Queensland families.

Close to two thirds of Queensland is now drought-declared (Queensland Government, 2019), with some shires without rain since 2013. As one of the worst droughts in history drags through its sixth year, thousands of families and small businesses face seemingly impossible conditions.

Lodges are doing their bit to help

Freemason Lodges across Queensland want to do their bit to help in the lead up to Christmas. That’s why, Hand Heart Pocket the Charity of Freemasons Queensland will match up to $100,000 in Lodge contributions dollar-for-dollar from 5 September 2019 and 2 December 2019.

Hand Heart Pocket will then partner with community organisations again in the affected regions to distribute funds to families and individuals where they are needed most.

The funds will be distributed through Hand Heart Pocket branded Eftpos cards, helping families to put food on the table and pay essential bills, whilst ensuring the funds stay in the community, in support of local businesses.

How your contribution could help

Our Charity partners on the ground will help to distribute the funds

For example:

  • The Western Drought Appeal and their associated distribution channels
  • The Rural Financial Counselling Service

This will ensure funds get to those who most need it.
